Intervention
SiLI is an “Industry 4.0” solution to indoor positioning. The intervention concerned the research and development of multiple solutions to meet indoor localisation needs, highlighted in the contemporary industrial environment and in its future development. In particular, an advanced prototype has been made to render the indoor positioning technology -which until now had been developed only for smartphone, thus usable only by a person- applicable also at industrial level, capable of tracking not only people but also objects.
After analysing the classic research and development problems, which allowed us to somehow review the part of the patented multi-algorithm that we had and be able to adapt it to use in the industrial sector, i.e. in a context where it is difficult to foresee the use of smartphones carried either by workers or even worse by attaching them to the objects whose position you want to track.
The research project made it possible to answer to the needs of indoors industrial logistics, more oriented towards tracking locations and flows than to offering a localisation service to end users. There are various application contexts: thanks to the implementation of the software on extremely low-cost devices we are now able to locate objects in a completely passive way with an accuracy of around 2 to 3 metres, and this is very useful in various contexts. From the airport where for example it is very important to be able to locate in real time the wheelchairs that must be available to passengers with reduced mobility for boarding the airplane, to industrial areas where we can locate moving objects in real time inside factories, such as pallets, forklifts, operators, and in this way to enable logistics optimization services aimed at reducing operating costs.
